'Five Rivers Challenge'

A new, self-navigated trail run, with a choice of 3 distances: 10K, Half-Marathon or Full Marathon

COVID-19 UPDATE  9th July 2020

5 Rivers Challenge Trail Run 13th, September 2020

Mark and Colin have had regular meetings to discuss the viability of holding this years event in view of the fast-moving Coronavirus pandemic.

Today we have made the very difficult decision to cancel the event and schedule a new event in late spring next year, allowing time for the return of organized running events.

We felt that with the current uncertainty over the resumption of mass participation events, ongoing suspension of Licenses issued by England Athletics and the Trail Running Association, and continuing high concerns over the risk of infection, we had little choice but to reschedule.

While all our work is focused on having the event, we must prioritize the health and wellbeing of participants, as well as the helpers and volunteers supporting us on the event day.

With limitations on gatherings already being implemented (currently max 6 people allowed to run together), it was felt the only responsible decision was to cancel/reschedule the event.

There is no set guidance yet available on how long this situation will continue but looking at the race calendar we have agreed on a new date with Allenburys Sports and Social Club: Sunday 23rd May 2021. We hope this allows enough time for the restrictions to be lifted.

All registered participants have been sent a mail offering two options:

  1.  DEFER YOUR ENTRY to next year - 23rd May 2021

  2.  Receive a FULL REFUND.  SiEntries has kindly offered to waive their usual refund fee for this event.

Entrants wishing to defer to next year need do nothing - entries will be transferred across on the SI Entries system.

Please make your selection by the end of Sunday 19th July

REFUNDS will be made to the credit/debit card used to pay for the entry within 3 weeks of the deadline above

Mark and I are truly sorry for the cancellation, and we hope you will understand and accept our reasoning.

We would be delighted to see you at the rescheduled event, which will build on the success of our first event in 2019!

Thanks and best regards,

Runner's Feedback from our first event, held September 2019.....

Liked the route and atmosphere. Additionally, the course marking (very good indeed for a self-navigated course), the enthusiasm of the organisers, facilities at the start, plastic free, zero major bottlenecks on the route, and the value for money. I also felt that the decision to skip chip timing benefited the event, contributing to a more relaxed/friendly nature.

This was amazingly well organised for an inaugural race, and I really hope you run the event again next year.

Liked choice of distances, good routes, good checkpoints and friendly volunteers, nice area to run, tea and coffee and snacks included

Good value for money, well stocked checkpoints, excellent route description, great marshals, good parking, nice course, well organised.

Beautiful route, well written route descriptions, checkpoints were well stocked.

Route was virtually all countryside

The route was amazing. Very friendly.

Easy to find, good directions for all forms of travel in the (very detailed) race instructions, plenty of on-site parking, excellent route descriptions, excellent routes, plenty of checkpoints, excellent organisation and to top it all perfect weather!

For the 2020 event, all routes will start and finish at Allenburys' Club, located in the historical town of Ware, Hertfordshire.

Depending on distance chosen, runners will visit the following rivers: Rib, Beane, Mimram, Lea & Ash.

All three event are narrative trail runs, in which participants follow a set of written directions.

We welcome runners and walkers!

Marathon runners/walkers: we apply a 7-hour cut-off, or 8-hours, for those opting for the 'early bird'* 8:00 am start.
